CARE INSTRUCTIONS FOR DENTURES

The importance of maintaining your dentures

Whether it’s for your full acrylic dentures, partial acrylic or metal dentures, or implant-supported dentures, it’s vital to maintain them daily. Plaque, an invisible bacterial film, is created not only on natural teeth, but also on all types of dentures. Here’s our advice on how to care for your dentures to avoid the harmful consequences of lack of maintenance.

DURING THE DAY, YOU MUST REMOVE YOUR DENTURES AFTER EACH MEAL AND CLEAN THEM. IF YOU CAN’T BRUSH THEM, AT LEAST RUN THEM UNDER WATER TO REMOVE ANY FOOD RESIDUE.

In the evening, you remove your dentures to soak them overnight.

We strongly recommend you use a soaking solution and follow the manufacturer’s instructions. We don’t recommend wearing dentures at night, but for those who do, you should soak them daily for at least 20 minutes. Above all, never use a bleach solution to soak your dentures. This solution whitens and dries out the acrylic in your dentures, making them more brittle.

Brush your dentures in the morning and evening

You must use a brush designed for dentures. In addition, you can use either a non-abrasive toothpaste, a paste designed for dentures, or a mild liquid soap. When brushing metal partial dentures, hold the partial denture on one side only to avoid squeezing it and risking deformation. We advise you to brush your dentures over a sink with water or a washcloth at the bottom, so that if you ever drop the denture, the shock is absorbed and the risk of breaking your denture is reduced.

Visit your denturist at least once a year

Finally, we recommend an annual visit to your denturist to have your dentures cleaned and polished. He can also check the condition of your dentures and gums. We would be pleased to welcome you annually at no charge.
